The body is a system of integrated parts similar to a Swiss watch; each one impacting the other.  Because these systems work together, they also rely on each other for normal functioning.  For example, our brain uses neurotransmitters to communicate, sending signals that impact mood, muscles, and glands.  These are required for sleep, alertness, motivation, emotions, and empathy but also for thyroid and adrenal function, fertility, and digestion.

While the neurotransmitter activity impacts each of these areas, these areas also impact our neurotransmitters.  For instance, approximately 90% of the neurotransmitter serotonin is made in the digestive tract.  This is the primary neurotransmitter targeted first by many prescribers when a person exhibits signs of depression, anxiety, obsessions and compulsions, as well as addictions.  The functionality of the digestive system, to include the microbiome, is a vital piece of the brain health and mood puzzle.  If a person is not breaking down and utilizing the nutrition they consume, or does not have a healthy microbiome, they may have mood consequences as a result of not being able to make the necessary neurotransmitters.

This is where we can work together to consider what is actually the cause of the symptoms you are experiencing!  We can use targeted testing to help facilitate lasting healing psychologically and biologically.  In counseling, it is well known that thoughts have an impact on us biologically, but the reverse is also true; our biology impacts us psychologically as well.
